One of the events for which Filipinos have many beliefs and traditions is New Year! Jumping at exactly 12 a.m. to grow taller and wearing polka dots for good luck are two of many traditions and beliefs that Filipinos have maintained to this day. From food to doings, Filipinos have a lot of entries!

New Year's Eve food on the table ***

Rice cake, a Filipino delicacy locally called "malagkit," is being prepared for luck to stick in your house. It stands for the closest bond inside every family. Another one is the pancit, which is being prepared because it gives long lives to the people in the family.

Every Filipino knows that they should have 12 round fruits on the table! Just like others, it brings wealth and luck to the family. Also, the 12 fruits symbolize the 12 months in a year. There's still a lot of food that every Filipino believes brings wealth and luck. However, preparing chicken is the last thing you want to do! Chicken is considered unlucky.

***Other beliefs and traditions: ***

Opening the door and window widely! Filipinos believe that luck and wealth will come through your house. Making the loudest noise is a must! Why? because it drives away bad luck from your home. You may wonder why, back then, a lot of people wore clothes with polka dots. It is also one of the beliefs of the Filipinos. Polka dots represent coins, so wearing them was thought to bring you wealth and good fortune. Lastly, if you wish to get taller, you should jump high at exactly 12 a.m.
