Lyceum of Alabang, Inc. finished its weeklong Instructional Leader and Educators Training (INLET) 2023 program, designed to develop the skills and capacity of Basic Education faculty on Friday, August 25.

Different resource speakers shared their expertise in their respective fields throughout the four-day training themed “Empowering Educators for 21st Century Teaching: Catalyzing Academic Excellence and Personal Growth Through Innovative Program Enhancement.

The training program was composed of two sessions, morning and afternoon segments, which were kicked off with game interludes to make the event lively.

On the inception day of the program, High School Vice Principals and faculty staffers took their oath before the Senior High School Principal, Engr. Rodrigo Calapan, and new Basic Education teachers were also introduced.

During the afternoon session, representatives from different offices and departments gave a talk to remind the educators of the school's praxis. The representatives from the Registrar's Office, Property/Purchase Office, Guidance and Testing Center, Office of the Student Affairs (OSA), and Human Resources and Development Office (HRDO) also discussed the purpose of their facilities respectively.

Meanwhile, cross-dressers’ restroom, specifically the policy regarding whether recognized cross-dresser students may use the restroom aligned with their SOGIE, was also discussed during the talk about OSA.

The office's director Mrs. Miguela Arcega said there was a request proposing separate restrooms for approved cross-dressers, also responding to a concern regarding grade level-specified restrooms due to cross-dressers supposedly using the elementary restrooms.

For the second day of INLET, Mr. Marthen Ross led the discussion about the usage of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and latest technology trends in education, following the bible lecture of Rev. Alberto Callo, Jr.

In the afternoon session, Prof. Lolita M. Zaide shared her expertise in the construction of different types of tests, including assessment and evaluation. The talk was followed by the discussion about Strategic Teaching in the Digital Age— Ms. Ellaine Pariente was for language and Mr. Erick Mendoza was for social sciences.

The third day was conducted in the college library extension, facilitated by Ms Paula Gone and Ms. Alexys Faz.

Dr. Anita Fresnedi, Dr. Alvin Espinas, and Mr. Neil Ochoa talked about the research guidelines, action research, and ethics. Ms. Marvie Salmingo, for Mathematics, then introduced apps for efficient checking of school-works.

At the afternoon session, different departments went to their designated rooms to talk about plans and reminders for the incoming school year, led by their respective cluster heads.

Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC) Overview and Quality Assurance presentation took place on the last day of INLET.

In the second segment of day four, Mr. Allian Caize Lopena talks about “Understanding by Design Framework: Acquisition, Making-Meaning, and Transfer” wherein teacher role and instructional strategies were highlighted.

Pausing the training program, Dr. Danilo V. Ayap delivered a message for the participants for the inauguration of Rev. Callo, Jr. as a South District Commissioner and the Chaplain of Lyceum of Alabang, Inc.

Mr. Thomas Eric Paulin, the guest speaker, conducted a lively game in his teaching demonstration with his sample lesson “Fact vs Opinion”. Ms. Ericka Maestre for kindergarten, Ms. Elma Polo for JHS, and Mr. Adrian Porto for Mathematics followed the demo.

The INLET 2023 was concluded with a certification and recognition, a closing remark from High School Principal Engr. Calapan, and a message from Dr. Ayap wherein he emphasized salary hikes for teachers, ongoing construction of playground for elementary students, toilet and pantry for the teachers, and the plan to put bells to lessen the teacher's overtime.

In an interview with The Spiracle, Ms. Deborah Maglaya, a personal development teacher, shared her enthusiasm in integrating what she learned from the talks in her classes, specifically the use of AI.

“Sobrang na-excite ako kasi [...] mas mapapagaan yung work ng teacher. Before kasi ang daming traditional na ginagawa so parang dito, mas nakatulong sya kasi may mga paraan pala para to lessen [yung workload],” she expounded, referencing the AI discussion on the second day of the program,
“This time, with all those na nag-share, hindi pwedeng samin [mga teachers] lang to, dapat mai-apply talaga namin sya sa room para mag benefit din yung mga estudyante," she added.

Mr. John Carlo Tanzo, a physics teacher, said contextualizing teaching methods in the 21st century is essential to be at par with students in utilization of technological advancements.

“It is really essential for us teachers to be updated with the changes in the educational system, most especially that there is an advancement of technology,” Mr. Tanzo said.

“And our students are really advanced in terms of their knowledge technologically, academically, so we must be at par or we must be beyond our students,” the physics teacher furthered.

On the other hand, Ms. Ma. Angel Viojan recounted her interaction and collaboration with her colleagues.
“The most memorable part of INLET is being with the teachers because I've experienced collaborating with them and also sharing ideas, and it is essential since I will be working with them throughout the school year,” she recalled. “This is also my first time teaching in Lyceum of Alabang."
