The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved a ₱1 fare increase for both traditional and modern public jeepneys nationwide. This increase will take effect starting on October 8, Sunday. “We only approved a ₱1 provisional fare increase in the first four kilometers. There is no additional increase in the succeeding kilometers” said Guadiz during the presscon. [1] In a press conference at the LTFRB office, LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III and regulatory board agreed to grant that the minimum fares for traditional and modern jeepneys will be ₱13 and ₱15, respectively. The petition was presented by three transportation organizations: Alliance of Concerned Transport Organization (ACTO), Alliance of Transport Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (Altodap), and the Pangkalahatang Sanggunian Manila & Suburbs Drivers Association Nationwide, Inc. (Pasang Masda). These organizations requested for a ₱5 fare hike for the first 4 kilometers and ₱1 for each additional kilometer although Guadiz noted that the ₱1 increase is only temporary until the LTFRB considers the groups' main petition. Meanwhile, the jeepney drivers and operators shall continue implementing discounted fares for students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities.
