Carlos Yulo got back on his feet in the finals after he finished with a bronze in the floor exercise event of 2024 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup series, held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on March 9.
Showcasing his routines on a difficulty level of 6.3 and an 8.066 point-worth execution, Yulo earned his rightful spot in the third with a total score of 14.366.
This bronze triumph saved the Filipino Olympian and gymnast from almost leaving empty-handed, seeing that he initially failed to advance on the final round of five other apparatuses after not entering the best eight of each during the qualifications.
Following Yulo’s recent performance, Gymnastics Association of the Philippines President Cynthia Carrion later revealed that Yulo came into the tournament with sights not actually for the gold.
“He tried his new skills and wasn’t really out to win the gold medal,” Carrion said in a chat message with BusinessMinor. “He’s creating some new skills for the Olympics because all the athletes here are improving a lot.”
Yahor Sharamkou of Belarus was the one who notched the gold in the final of floor exercise with a 14.933 total score, while Japan’s Kazuki Minami went just a step higher than Yulo for the silver with a total score of 14.666.
