Akira Toriyama, the legendary manga artist behind the global phenomenon anime and manga series of Dragon Ball, recently passed away at the age of 68, on March 1.

The cause of death was reported to be acute subdural hematoma, a type of bleeding near the brain.

Fans expressed their deep sorrow and paid tribute to Toriyama for creating iconic characters that became a cherished part of their childhoods.

A private funeral service was held with only close family and a few friends in attendance, according to a statement released on the Dragon Ball website.

"He had a lot more to accomplish," the statement read, acknowledging his unfinished works, "However, he has gifted the world with a vast collection of manga titles and art."

Toriyama's career began in the early 1980s with the popular manga series Dr. Slump, a whimsical story about a robot girl named Arale and her inventor. However, his true legacy lies with Dragon Ball.

Moreover, Toriyama's work, particularly Dragon Ball, transcended language barriers, achieving immense popularity worldwide. The series spawned a vast multimedia empire encompassing animated shows, movies, and video games.

Debuted in 1984, Dragon Ball follows the adventures of Son Goku, a young boy on a quest to gather mystical Dragon Balls and defend Earth from alien threats. Even at the time of his passing, Toriyama reportedly had ongoing creative projects.

The studio concluded by expressing their hope that Akira Toriyama's unique creative universe will continue to be loved by fans around the globe for generations to come.
