Every decision comes with consequences, The leap of trusting yourself takes a lot of courage to gather. But in a world where gambling exists, many people impulsively create decisions for themselves that would put them in a bad situation. With influencers today it is easy to advertise on different online platforms. However, advertising online gambling to viewers may lead to catastrophic outcomes as this not only promotes bad decision-making but may lead a lot of audiences into debt with bad financial decisions.

Online gambling, if not managed responsibly, can lead to substantial financial losses. The fast-paced nature of online gambling can contribute to impulsive and uninhibited betting, potentially exacerbating the risk of losing money. Moreover, the absence of physical cash in online gambling makes it easier for individuals to lose track of their spending, increasing the likelihood of significant financial losses. [1]. Many gamblers spontaneously spend their money on gambling. There are a lot of factors why gamblers spend huge amounts of money to play more or give their bets. It can be because of the addicting environment that draws many people into gambling or the people who introduce gambling—that's what makes this dangerous is when people promote gambling to people who aren't exposed yet.

In July, Kate Susabu uploaded a video on TikTok criticizing the number of gambling advertisements on broadcast television while citing her grandfather’s struggle with addiction. She linked to an online petition calling for broadcasters to stop accepting advertising money from gambling companies. She cited a study by the Australian Institute of Family Studies that found more than 70% of male gamblers aged 18 to 35 were at risk of harm [2]. It is a strong addiction that spreads like wildfire. Just like in TikTok being exposed to different creators promoting gambling. It is hard to get back once you start gambling as this feeds your dopamine and the adrenaline rush to play more with the hopes of winning something, Many people fall under this trap that leads them to bad positions in life. Most gamblers follow the same route of being in debt after losing most of their money. As Kate stated most gamblers start at 18 and this is concerning because most teenagers are exposed to gambling at such a young age.

Many opportunities await these young people, but the illusion of gaining easy access in life leads to nowhere but a dead end just like the rest. Influence is a huge factor, especially in today’s age where everything is digital the same way we can just click away anything on our mobile phones. The scale is huge in gambling and it is dangerous that we let anything influence us. This affects not only us but also the people around us.

Approximately 10 million people in the United States live with a gambling addiction problem. A gambling addiction occurs when a person continues to gamble despite negative effects that may impact their finances, relationships, or well-being. Gambling addiction involves compulsions to seek out gambling, betting, and wagering, and the end result can be devastating for the gambler as well as his or her family [3]. The addiction continues to grow in every gambler which results in failing a lot of things in their life and the fact that it blinds them that the chances of winning are very slim just to believe that some small chance may win them when in reality they can't.

Gambling has always been a part of our society, But now it only became more dangerous with its widespread in media, and the modernization of online gambling where all it takes is a few clicks to gamble is alarming the same way many teens are exposed to these media when they shouldn’t be. Gambling has never been more frightening to many people around the world with its rise with the popular app TikTok where a simple search can show you many information to these types of content.

As audiences we should have the right integrity to not participate in any of these media as this can be dangerous and how this can ruin our lives. We need to become more vigilant towards what influences us because what we consume is what we also apply.
