Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) confirmed 8 Philippine Navy were injured and 1 lost a finger, in a collision between Chinese Coast Guard and Philippine Coast Guard during the resupply mission at BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal on June 17, 2024.
Reports indicate that the fistfight broke out between Filipino and Chinese soldiers, resulted in the capture of eight high powered firearms and the damaging of rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB).
Chinese Coast Guard punctured the boats of the Philippine Coast Guard which led to malfunction and disrupting the resupply mission.
The Department of of National Defense (DND) offcials from AFP together with the Philppine Coast Guard declined the recent incident, marking it as a territorial dispute.
The "Order of Lapu-Lapu" was honored to Seaman First Class Jeffrey Facundo with the Kampilan rank in recognition of his bravery during the collision at the resupply mission in the BRP Sierra Madre.
During his visit at Western Command troops in Palawan, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. awarded the honor to the 80 soldiers who also fought for the resupply mission
