Potted the ball to history. Rubilen "Bingkoy" Amit conquered the world as she nabbed Philippines' first MassΓ© World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) Women's 9-ball Championship, on Sunday, September 8, with a 3-1 truimph versus Chen Siming of China at the Claudelands Events Centre in Hamilton, New Zealand.
Amit seized the chance to secure the victory after Siming missed the 8-ball at the rack 23 in the last set resulting in a hill-hill match in the last game.
Siming took 4 out of 5 racks in the opening game, but Amit recovered and seized 4 out of 6 racks in the second game.
Amit pulled out a 4-9 runout at the 6th set in the third game, and later on closed the match in the 7th set of the last game.
“She played really well, especially during the start and I was having a difficult time adjusting my stance, so I kind of started slow. So I was really hopeful that I could pick it up towards the second step,” Amit stated.
The two cue players have pushed beyond their limits in that Race to 4, Best of 5 sets exhausting matchup.
“And I’m just very fortunate that it happened the way that it did. I don’t want her to miss a ball, but she missed the 8 ball. I was really surprised because, with her caliber, it’s almost impossible that she would miss it. And I was like, Maybe this is my chance, I really wanted to finish it ’cause I was so nervous if it would go another set. I don’t think I could last another set,” Amit said.
Amit is now a three-time world champion; she continues to strive for improvement and is preparing for another world championship in Puerto Rico this coming November.
