The Philippines has written a new chapter in its sporting history, claiming a historic gold medal in the 2025 Asian Winter Games Men's curling finals, as it came in a stunning upset over South Korea, 5-3 at Harbin International Conference, Exhibition and Sports Center in Heilongjiang, China on Friday, February 14.
The Men's curling team of Marc Pfister, Enrico Pfister, Alan Frei, Christian Haller and Benjo Delarmente established a 3-1 lead by the fourth end, despite South Korea tying the score in the fifth and sixth ends, the Philippines regained the lead in the seventh end and held on for the win in the eighth end.
“This is truly a testament to the hard work and dedication of our athletes and coaches,” said Philippine Olympic Committee President Bambol Tolentino.
“This is too good to be true,” he added.
In the final match, the Philippines really showed their nerves of steel and strategic brilliance through pinpoint shooting and masterful making of plays to steal the hard-fought victory from the much more formidable South Korean team.
The victory adds another luster to the talent and provides further credence to the Philippines’ interest in winter sports, the rise in popularity of curling has given way to this historic gold medal win.
The Philippines' gold medal win in curling is a moment that will be remembered for years to come, with the triumph, they have already secured a place at 2026 Olympic pre-qualifiers later this year.
