The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) has assumed control over the country’s billiards sports affairs following the suspension of the Billiards Sports Confederation of the Philippines (BSCP) by the Asian Confederation of Billiards Sports (ACBS).

In an email on March 9, the ACBS cited multiple violations by the BSCP, including conflicts of interest, failure to hold elections, and organizing international tournaments without proper approval.

Additionally, the governing body accused BSCP of failing to properly support Filipino cue artists, many of whom rank among the world’s best.

The decision comes after the recent hosting of the inaugural Reyes Cup, a tribute tournament for billiards legend Efren “Bata” Reyes, though the ACBS did not specify if this event was part of the unapproved tournaments.

With the suspension taking effect on March 11, the POC, through secretary-general Wharton Chan, informed the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) that it would temporarily oversee the sport’s operations.

This includes managing arrangements and entitlements for national athletes, as well as ensuring the participation of qualified Filipino cueists in upcoming international competitions, particularly the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China, set for August 7 to 17.

The POC has been tasked with forming a disciplinary committee to investigate the BSCP’s alleged violations. As per ACBS recommendations, the POC’s oversight should not exceed three months while the investigation is ongoing.

As of March 14, both the BSCP and PSC have yet to release statements regarding the suspension.
