Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the oval office meeting as 'regrettable' on Tuesday, March 4, with regards his last meeting with U.S. president Donald Trump on Friday.
Zelensky wrote in his X post, saying, "our meeting in Washington, at the White House on Friday [February 28th], did not go the way it was supposed to be....It is regrettable that it happened this way."
Zelensky also stated that he is ready to negotiate peace.
“Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians," he added.
During the meeting, Trump berated Zelensky accusing him of gambling the lives of millions of people and a gambler for World War Three, becoming a heated argument.
The Oval Office meeting was supposed to end with Ukraine agreeing to share mining resources with America, not until JD Vance, U.S. Vice President, and Trump said that Zelensky must agree of ceasefire with Russia and appreciate more the aid from the U.S.
The Ukrainian president then expressed how he value America's help to Ukraine. He mentioned that the U.S. maintained the country's sovereignty and independence.
Zelensky also made an agreement that Ukraine is ready to end the war only if Russia will do the same.
"First stages could be the release of prisoners and truce in the sky—ban on missiles, long-ranged drones, bombs on energy and other civilian infrastructure— and truce in the sea immediately," Zelensky expressed.
France, Germany, Spain, and other world leaders such as the prime ministers of Canada, Australia, and New Zealand posted on social media their support to Ukraine and Zelensky.
The heat-up between Trump and Zelensky is not new. Previously, Trump called Zelensky a 'dictator' after claiming his approval rate among Ukrainians went down to 4%, which the claimed statistics has proven not true.
Trump issued a pause on shipments of U.S. military aid to Ukraine on Monday, March 3rd, and will remain until Zelensky set commitment on peace talks.
