Theme: Holding on to the part of ourselves that still believes, feels, and dreams.

I talked to the moon and named every star,

Believed I could fly, if I ran really far,

The world winked at me through windows of glee,

Ignoring the chaos while I stayed innocently.

I build forts with blankets and chairs,

While crying from falling not from grown up affairs,

I tried to act strong and welcomed the fall,

Because in my smallness, I felt ten feet tall.

But time withdrew what once was right,

Stealing my spark and dimming the light,

Of telling the children to quiet their song,

Tucking the dreams that won't last long.

The world drew its lines and told me to stay,

To walk in straight and throw the magic away,

But she tiptoes through my memories, barefooted and free,

Unchaining the rules that's wrapped around me.

She still loves the rain, the wind on her hair,

She still talks to the moon like it's always been there,

For she's not only a shadow nor gone,

But a child with a life that's still undone.
