Cue the Lights, Roll the Camera, and Let the Christmas Magic Begin!
As the holiday season arrives, this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) once again takes center stage and promises surprises, blockbuster stories, and a cinematic experience like no other. This year, a wave of fresh and diverse Filipino films took center stage, surprising audiences and giving cinephiles something truly to celebrate.
For decades, the MMFF has stood as a celebration of Filipino talent, culture, and imagination—bringing together renowned directors, emerging filmmakers, and audiences looking for stories that reflects Filipino life. Each year, the festival transforms moviegoing into a shared Christmas tradition, where local films become part of family gatherings and holiday conversations.
Founded in 1975, MMFF was created to give Filipino films a dedicated space during Christmas. Traditions like the Parade of the Stars and the Gabi ng Parangal have made MMFF a cornerstone of Filipino Christmas culture, connecting filmmakers and audiences while celebrating the creativity and heart of local cinema.

Before the film hit the cinemas, they first hit the streets. The Parade of the Stars on December 19, 2025 stretches from Macapagal Boulevard to Circuit Makati, turning Makati City into a moving festival of colors, music, and cinematic magic. Towering floats and star appearances bring films to life, creating a spectacle families and fans won’t forget.
The route may stretch for a few kilometers, but distance doesn’t matter to the excited crowds. Fans eagerly await a glimpse of their favorite stars, waving from the floats as if they’ve stepped straight out of the screen.
Sidewalks overflow with cheering crowds, children wave at their favorite characters, and cameras capture every moment. The energy is contagious, as the city pauses to marvel at the floats and stars—a prelude to the stories that they will see soon on screen.

All roads lead to the Gabi ng Parangal, where Filipino films and artists shine their brightest. This has been part of the MMFF since its early years, and it continues to set the standard for what amazing Filipino filmmaking looks like.
The Gabi ng Parangal acknowledges a wide range of achievements—acting, directing, writing, production design, music, technical work, and even the iconic parade floats. Classic awards like Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Float remain audience favorites, while newer categories such as Most Gender-Sensitive Film and Breakthrough Performance Award, recognize bold, boundary-pushing stories. Lifetime honors, cultural awards, and jury citations celebrate filmmakers whose influence extends beyond a single movie.
But Gabi ng Parangal is not just about trophies—it’s where the festival’s biggest moments happen. It’s when the filmmakers see their hard work being celebrated. For many, it captures the real purpose of the festival: celebrating Filipino talent and the stories we proudly call our own.
MMFF proves once again that Filipino films are more than just entertainment—they are a thread that weaves families, friends, and communities together during holidays. From the inclusive movie lineup that dared to bring new voices forward, to vibrant floats that bring the streets alive, and the stars shining their brightest at the Gabi ng Parangal, this festival reminds us why local cinema matters.
It’s a celebration of talent, creativity, and Filipino identity. Every laugh, every tear, every cheer from the crowds is a testament to the power of stories told by and for Filipinos. So this holiday season, step into cinemas, join the festive streets, and be part of the magic—because the joy of MMFF is a gift we all share.
