Battling the flu, Nerrick So of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) defied illness and powered his way to a 2-0 victory over Zedrick Dematera of Arts, Social Science and Humanities and Humanities and Social Sciences (ASSH-HUMSS) n the Men’s Badminton match on October 16 to secure the championship title.
Despite feeling under the weather, So remained determined to finish the tournament on top, relying on his signature jump smashes to overcome Dematera’s defense and take the first set, 21-14.
Dematera fought back in the second set, using precise backcourt clears and net shots to challenge So and seize an early 9-7 lead.
However, So refused to let his opponent take advantage, ountering Dematera’s attacks and capitalizing on crucial errors to regain control and establish a 17-13 advantage.
With the championship within reach, So maintained his composure and continued pressing forward, capitalizing on net attacks to suppress Dematera, and sealing the second set, 21-15, to complete the statement sweep.
So’s hard-fought triumph secured STEM’s second badminton championship title, joining Sophia Canlas, who also captured the crown in the women’s category.
