Home Economics and Industrial Arts (HEIA) Basketball Team proved their flamed power in against the General Academic Strand (GAS) Team over a nerve-racking 54-53 crunch, saved their twice-to-beat title and brought home the mighty gold at Lyceum of Alabang 19th Foundation Week Senior High School Basketball Championship, Tuesday night, October 26 at DVA Gym.

Nico Romero, who are ones that fueled HEIA right from the get-go, quoted that their team play had been given various advices from their coach and advisers while at the same time made sure that their coordination is at its peak that made them push the lead towards the end.

Powered by their decisive players, led by Romero, Andrei Duran and Jimmy Abel, HEIA’s squad managed to squeeze through the grasp of the flaunted moves of GAS’ Kenneth Rodriguez and Sam Sorno, who both sparked the light on the crucial last two minutes of the game with plenty of rebounds and three pointers at their tremendous efforts to cut the HEIA’s lead.

Lapped at a 49-46 breaker, Miguel Barcelona of HEIA fired a triple to add to the group’s score streak, made the crowd wild before Rodriguez boosted up for a two pointer and a foul, garnering a free throw that was then followed by Sorno’s two-pointer to once again, bring the markers at 49-49; until HEIA’s Abel and Duran crushed in five consecutive points to close their lead at 54-49 with 40 seconds remaining.

At the earlier moments of the third period, HEIA’s Pyro Presidente went on a fury of various rebounds, three-pointers, doubles and assists that harvested a total of 12 score advantage over GAS, and with the aid of Duran, Romero and Kenneth Pagkalinawan, the GAS seemingly burned out over the span of seven minutes without any successful shots to add in their board.

While GAS’ attempts faltered at the 2nd half of the game, their performance was heightened at the earlier moments of the 1st and 2nd quarter as they set a few instances of stretch against HEIA with the help of Michael Crisostomo, KIrk Kentzie and John Llord Acero, however, due to the exceeded amount of two-pointers blasted by HEIA’s Romero, Duran and a few calls from Barcelona and JC Santos, the tries rendered useless and always nips in at two point advantage over GAS.

Previously, the GAS had trounced HEIA at an earlier game with a 63-87 drop as they were led by Acero, Sorno and Rodriguez’s varied execution of two’s and three’s, taking in one game win addition to beat HEIA’s twice-to-beat advantage.
