8 dead and at least 25 concertgoers were injured during the crowd surge at the Astroworld music festival. Houston fire chief Samuel Pena stated that it occurred during Scott’s performance when the crowd started to compress toward the stage, this incident caused panic and injuries.

Houston resident and concert attendee Manuel Souza filed a civil lawsuit against rappers Travis Scott and Drake, blaming them for negligently arousing violence and riot. In accordance with the lawsuit, the lawsuit seeks $1 million for the damages done, it also claims that there was a lack in provision of security and medical services by the venue and the live nation entertainment company.

The suit alleges that Scott “had incited mayhem and chaos at prior events” since he founded this festival in 2018. It was said that other defendants did not step up to prevent this behavior. The filed lawsuit also claims that “Drake, a surprise performer, took part in inciting the said crowd surge even though he knew about Scott’s prior conduct,” and “continued to perform on stage while the crowd mayhem continued.” Scott then declined to comment about the lawsuit and said that he was “absolutely devastated by what happened.”
