NEWS: DOH: COVID-19 vaccine for younger age groups by: Juancarlos Raphael Apalit

After the news of new vaccine doses arriving in the country, Department of Health’s Usec. Myrna Cabotaje has confirmed that the vaccine doses will be available for younger children aged 5 to 11.

Before allowing the vaccination for these younger groups, the Department of Health (DOH) with the help of multiple experts, has sought for information on the safety and what-to-dos when vaccinating children of this age group.

Once the operational guidelines are finalized, they will start the vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 years old. With the plans of doing so, they have also mentioned that there will be a specific site where only children of this age group can be vaccinated.

For children aged 0 to 4 years old, there is still no vaccine available. As per the Usec, they will wait until the 2nd quarter of the year to see if vaccine doses of children of this age group are available.

Once vaccines are available, DOH will wait for the study and recommendation of the Health Technology Assessment Council as well as the “go” signal from the experts. If recommended, they shall start the vaccination for children aged 0 to 4 as well.
