The Department of Information and Communication (DICT) stated that the scam text or unsolicited text messages could be coming from outside the Philippines. Leads were now also determined.
DICT Undersecretary Alexander Ramos said that scam texts are
not just happening in the Philippines but also in different country, and this
investigation needs bigger effort and wider investigation.
Ramos stated during one of the media interviews that they are
now coordinating with the international counterpart on text scam leads.
The phone numbers used by text scammers could have been
scraped and harvested from online payment and messaging applications, said the
National Privacy Commission (NPC) deputy commissioner, Leandro Aguirre.
Meanwhile, the authorities detained five South Koreans. They
were allegedly part of a text-scam syndicate.
