Philippines’ Catholic Festival Flores de Mayo is celebrated during the Month of May. It was introduced by Spaniards on 1800’s. It is an event to remember how Queen Helena uncovered the Holy Cross which Jesus Christ was crucified. This event aims to people to not forget how Jesus was crucified for our salvation, and not just to be like ‘beauty pageant.’

Colorful flowers offered with Virgin Mary, girls wear gown and well glammed, boys wears matching their partners outfit. Those who participates in the parade wears different titles honoring Bible Characters. Especially, Reyna Elena and Constantine. However, before Santacruzan may happen, there are still nine days of prayer or what they called ‘Novena’. Parade will take place on the 9th day of Novena.

By now, due to its popularity, Philippine immigrants bought this festival on Europe and America.

Meanwhile, people celebrating SantaCruzan now seems to forget the true essence of it. Rev. Father Rex John N. Palmos, director of the archdiocese’s Commission on Catechesis and Catholic Education, reminded the churches and parishes to remember why Santacruzan is being celebrated.

‘’Santacruzan is not visual spectacle,’’ he said.
