Manila, Philippines - In a remarkable display of innovation, Jeremy De Leon, a 28-year-old Manufacturing Engineering graduate of Mapua University, has introduced the "Make-roscope”, a groundbreaking microscope that magnifies organisms up to 400 times and easily attaches to smartphones or tablets. Jeremy's ingenious creation, born during the pandemic, aims to revolutionize science education and address the shortage of laboratory equipment in schools.

De Leon's Make-roscope kit includes essential tools for microscopy, such as an information card, tweezers, keychain, cleaning cloth, blank glass slides, prepared specimens, a pipette, specimen tubes, and cotton swabs.

Jeremy, who will use the P330,000 prize money to further develop his invention, expressed his excitement as he stated, "I am thrilled that the Make-roscope is being recognized and can potentially make a difference in science education.”

This groundbreaking invention recently clinched the top prize in the Philippine leg of the prestigious James Dyson Award competition, and also surpassed 47 entries from 12 universities.

The Make-roscope's journey doesn't end here. It is set to compete on the international stage of the James Dyson Award. The top 20 inventions will be revealed on October 18, with the ultimate winners announced on November 15. Sir James Dyson himself will choose the awardees, with prizes reaching up to P2,000,000, while runners-up will receive P330,000 each.
