From the insightful words of Hector Urquhart's introduction to Popular Tales of the West Highlands, "One man's trash can be another man's perfect treasure," the current state of our waste management can be clearly related.

The profound question arises. Have you ever pondered the fate of your discarded waste? Does it unwittingly pollute the seas and endanger the innocent wildlife? What if there is a way to convert waste materials into something worth valuable, all while preserving their inherent worth? Here in the Philippines, known for a lot of garbage and plastic debris, we are grappling with environmental challenges and with how to make a change for society. A remarkable phenomenon is taking root—transforming waste into wonders. Where creativity meets sustainable solutions, let us stumble on roles that can encourage every human being to practice these kinds of wellspring of innovation.

Did you know that recycling and upcycling are different from each other? As we know, they are both dominant in the green environment. If you are going to demolish something to make new materials, that's what recycling does. Taking old materials and breaking them to make new ones. Recycling materials can be found at home, school, or even at the park. Just like plastic, cans, or boxes. As we dig into upcycling, this is transforming something invaluable and turning it into something useful. Stepping into the realms of how upcycling is vital, where the trash can be repurposed into stunning works of art [1].

There are lots of projects that can be considered as upcycling. It can be found in local stores or even online. Shoes made from plastic bottles, furniture made from old and reused wood, or fancy lamps made from old reusable light bulbs. You can also make your product with the items in your home that you think are invaluable to make something new. It can be simple or as complex as you want it to be. Starting with the basic tools that you can use, just as glue, scissors, tape, or fabric. For instance, you can turn an old cloth into a fancy tote bag or make plastic bottles into an exquisite flower vase. Another unique thing to do, instead of using sea shells as your decoration in your kitchen, you can try painting oyster shells to create trinket dishes or hair tie holders for your vanity table [2].

There are no rules or limits on what you want to create. You can try experimenting with colors, trying out new shapes and sizes, or inventing something new for the vision of others. You can do sewing, woodworking, knitting, or using machines for metalworking [3].

It saves natural resources and energy through our planet. It lessens the garbage and enhances our abilities to be creative. Expressing ourselves is a big change in making things that can be unique to others and have value. Upcycling saves us money and helps us declutter at home. You can use what's inside your home instead of buying new things. You can also donate or sell your projects to others who are in need.

Every day individuals find beauty and value in discarded materials. Through the lens of upcycling, we have uncovered a world brimming with hidden treasures and untapped potential. Imagine a society where discarded metals and plastics are reborn as aesthetically pleasing creations. Helping our community is not oppressive, there are tons of ways that we can do to make a positive impact on the environment. However, it is not only accessible to the environment but also to your mind and abilities. One must only enable the imagination and learn the skill of its doings.
