Alamty, Kazakhstan - In a historic feat, NASA astronaut Frank Rubio returned to Earth on September 27, 2023 after an unexpectedly extended mission that spanned an astonishing 371 days in space. This remarkable achievement now places him as the American astronaut with the longest single spaceflight in history.

In September 2022, Frank Rubio and his crewmates launched from a Russian space agency facility in Kazakhstan, expecting a standard six-month stay on the International Space Station (ISS). However, a surprise coolant leak on their Soyuz spacecraft while aboard the space station forced them to extend their mission well beyond the original plan.

Upon returning to Earth, NASA declared that Rubio had set a new record for the longest single spaceflight by an American astronaut, surpassing the previous record of 340 days held by Scott Kelly during his year-long ISS mission.

In recognition of this remarkable achievement, NASA has arranged a news conference with Frank Rubio, set to take place on Friday, October 13, 2023, at the agency's Johnson Space Center in Houston. During this conference, Rubio is anticipated to offer insights and share his experiences from his extended stay in space.
