Home Economics (HE) Strand retained their title as the SHS Basketball Champion after they dumped the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Strand’s twice-to-beat advantage in a 56-79 victory at the second game of the Basketball Finals, Thursday, October 26, held at the Danilo V. Ayap (DVA) Gymnasium.
Jersey number 22, Nico Romero, allotted 22 big points and led his team to victory, alongside Canlas and Duran, who did great in both offense and defense.
HE prevailed most in the third quarter as their players actively stole and scored the ball on each possession, which caused a lot of turnovers for their opponents STEM and widened the gap to 22 points.
HE started the game in bliss as they scored an 8-0 run in the early minutes of the first quarter and prevented STEM from close the gap throughout the match.
STEM players Villablanca, who also scored 22 points, and Constantino, who scored 17 points, carried their team throughout the match.
In order to eliminate STEM's twice-to-beat advantage, the opposing teams played two series, and HE dominated both games with a score of 45-59 in the first game.
During the awarding ceremony on Wednesday, November 8 at the DVA Gymnasium players were given recognition in their exemplary performances as well as coaches who guided their team.
Most Valuable Player (MVP) was awarded to Geoffrey Ian Canlas (HE); he was also part of the Mythical 5 along with Andrei Duran (HE), Juan Miguel Aquino (STEM), Vhin Dustyn Constantino (STEM), and Matthew Constantino (ABM). Meanwhile, HE's coach, Mr. Juan Odapin, was recognized as the best basketball coach.
