Former Vice President Leni Robredo reinforced the “#NoExcuse” campaign for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls, Wednesday, November 29.

“I stand in solidarity with women all over the world against any form of Gender-Based Violence,” Robredo said in an instagram post along infographics about violence against women.

The #NoExcuse slogan is part of the UNiTE 16-day activism themed “Invest to Prevent Violence against Women and Girls,” which marked its first day on November 25 and will run until December 10, the International Human Rights Day [1].

Robredo shared her experience as a lawyer for abused women, stating, “Sa mababang panahon ng pakikipaglaban ko bilang abogado para sa mga babaeng inaabuso, I stood witness to the detrimental effects of abuse, not only on their bodies but even more on their emotional well-being and confidence.”

“Dahil dito, madalas silang panghinaan ng loob kapag nahaharap sa desisyon to leave their abusers and start anew, falling repeatedly told the vicious cycle of false promises and hurt,” she furthered.

The former vice president has represented marginalized sectors as a practicing lawyer prior to her entrance in the political landscape.

Robredo also urged everyone to remind women and girls that there is #NoExcuse in violence, citing the weight of community in the healing of abused women.

Prior to her political career, Robredo founded Lakas ng Kababaihan ng Naga Federation and was the President of the Naga City Council for Women [2].

Robredo continued her advocacy in the political scene, authoring the Comprehensive Anti-Discrimination Bill and spearheading women empowerment projects.
