12th-grade students from Lyceum of Alabang’s General Academic Strand (GAS) and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) strand participated in the film showing event for the Responsible 18 (R-18) celebration held at Museo ng Muntinlupa on Friday, April 19.

The event featured a screening of the film ‘Instalado’, a social science fiction film entry to the 2017 ToFarm Film Festival, which tackled important agricultural, societal, and cultural issues for the students.

“Well, Instalado is a great movie. It showcased what could happen in the future. As we can see in the movie, you can install knowledge into people’s brains using technology to make it easy for them to know various things in a snap, which I think is unethical and unfair. If we compare it to traditional education, knowledge is not the only thing acquired; matutunan mo rin ang ibang aspects of life, such as socialization, perseverance, and manners,” Hannah Lorenzo, the president of GAS, shared with The Spiracle.

Following the film, guest speaker Atty. Gemma Tiama then shared talks about legal rights and opportunities, discussing family, civil, political rights, and more with the students.

In an exclusive interview with The Spiracle, Atty. Tiama reflected on her experience as the guest speaker.

“I am humbled, of course, to be invited in this event. Actually, this is the first time that I’ll be speaking for R-18, but it is not my first time to speak in front of you,” she said.

The Tourism, Culture, and the Arts Department of the City Government of Muntinlupa, together with DepEd - Muntinlupa, orchestrated the event with the aim of cultivating cultural awareness and appreciation among students.

Moreover, student officers from Muntinlupa National High School also participated in the film screening.
