De La Salle University (DLSU) remains in the battle after the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball Finals Game 2, defeating the University of the Philippines (UP), 76-75, on December 11 at the Mall of Asia Arena, coming back from an 11-point deficit in the final quarter.
Down 73-66 past midway, the Green Archers surged with an 8-0 run led by Kevin Quiambao's back-to-back triples, reclaiming the lead before Mike Phillips sealed their advantage with a clutch basket off Quiambao's assist.
La Salle star Kevin Quiambao displayed an outstanding performance, leading DLSU with 22 points and 9 rebounds, including 11 key points in the fourth quarter.
“I just want to be clear that KQ is just one of us. When we were down and out, these guys told everyone to never give up and just keep playing. We made the necessary stops in the endgame, which gave us the opportunity to connect from the outside,” said DLSU Head Coach Robinson, emphasizing Kevin Quiambao's role in La Salle's strategy and performance.
DLSU took an early lead, finishing the first half with quarter scores of 28-22 in the first and 39-36 in the second. UP led the third quarter with a 62-54 advantage, but with La Salle taking a 76-75 victory.
The Green Archers were led by Kevin Quiambao with 22 points, followed by Phillips with 18, and Gollena and Macalaglag contributing 9 points each. The rest of the team combined for 18 points.
The Fighting Maroons also showcased strong performances, with Cagulangan, Lopez, and Abadiano each scoring 16 points, while the rest of the team added a combined total of 27 points.
