Creamline Cool Smashers maintained a flawless record as they devastated the winless Nxled Chameleons in straight sets, 25-12, 25-21, 25-19, in the 2024-2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference held at PhilSports Arena, in Pasig City, on Tuesday, January 28.
Creamline extended their winning streak to 19 matches, dating back to their last defeat in the second round of the 2024 Reinforced Conference.
Setter Kyle Negrito orchestrated the team's victory with 15 excellent sets and 3 points, while Bernadeth Pons and Tots Carlos powered Creamline's offense with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
"I guess Nxled really put in an effort [in the last two sets]. I think we also got a bit too relaxed. But at this point in the tournament, you can't afford to relax. I'm happy we were able to recover and secure the sets and win," Negrito said.
After the match, Pons highlighted the mindset that keeps them focused and disciplined.
"We’re happy because we won this game. I think we always keep in mind what coach says, never let our guard down. No matter who our opponent is, we shouldn’t be complacent because that’s when we lose, when we let up.”
Creamline faced some resistance in the second and third sets after crushing Nxled in the first set.
Nxled attempted to extend the match with a 14-9 lead in the third set, but a well-timed video challenge turned the momentum in favor of Creamline.
After an attack error by Tots Carlos, Creamline went on a commanding 10-1 run, overcoming a 15-18 deficit and sealing the comeback with a powerful attack from Carlos in the middle.
Nxled saw their losing streak extend to eight games this conference.
Nxled's struggles continued, with only five players able to score. Jaycel Delos Reyes top-scored with seven points, while Lycha Ebon, May Luna, and Lucille Almonte each added six points.
With their win, Creamline will aim to keep its perfect record against fellow powerhouse Cignal HD Spikers.
