Erica De Luna from De La Salle-Zobel (DLSZ) inscribed her name in history of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) by becoming the first player across all its five divisions to achieve a quadruple-double in girls’ basketball during its 87th season on Sunday, March 2, at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
De Luna, who is currently an 18-year-old grade 12 student, fired a record of 32 points, 16 rebounds, 11 assists, and 12 steals, and according to her, with this achievement her self-esteem grew.
"Nakakaboost ito ng confidence heading into my collegiate career. Even though konti lang yung time at preparation namin, proud ako aside from my stats, na we ended the season with a win on a high note," said De Luna in a talk.
Maan Moreno, their assistant coach, was also impressed with De Luna’s growth and consistency and even stated in an interview that she’s very proud of her maturity as the star player can also be sometimes hot-headed.
“Ito kasi hot-headed minsan, eh dahil sa UAAP, nagmature siya doon sa area na 'yon," the coach said.
In line with De Luna’s achievement, her team, the DLSZ Junior Lady Archers, also achieved an impressive game as they demolished their opponent, Ateneo de Manila University’s Blue Eagles, in a 90 point gap, 114-24.
With the skills of De Luna and her team, DLSZ crushed the Blue Eagles right from the first game, performing 31-6 at the first quarter and 59-12 on the next, continuing it up until the end with 114-24, wrapping up the quarter.
In addition, Princess Cordero also fired up with 25 points, eight assists, five steals, and two rebounds, and with her assistance, de Luna became unstoppable.
A double-double from the team captain, Naima Navarro, also contributed a lot as she gained 13 points and 13 rebounds.
With their win, Ateneo remained with a winless record 0-6, while the Junior Lady Archers secured 3rd place.
