National Capital Region (NCR) victoriously defended their overall championship title after taking home 117 golds, 70 silvers, and 50 bronzes, that extended their 17-win streak in 2025 Palarong Pambansa, Ilocos Norte, May 24 to 31.

Among 34 sports contested by different regions, NCR Athletes, hauled outpouring golds including 36 in gymnastics, while 19 in swimming, Palarong Pambansa witnessed their record-breaking haul of golds once again since 2013 (114).

Having titled "Most Bemedled Athletes”, NCR swimmers Titus Rafael Sia and Sophia Rose Garra revamped the records with theirs after claiming golds in all seven rivalries they competed in, Sia broke three records, while Garra, on the other hand, broke two records.

One of the records Sia broke was during the 100m backstroke, Sia clocked in at 1:05.44 which refurbished the previous record from NCR’s Martin Isaak Seth’s time of 1:06.38 during the 2015 edition, it completed her six golds among all seven competitions from the edition.

While in Athletics, Cris Ivan Domingo marked his noteworthy debut as he clocked 54.29 seconds during the 400-meter dash elementary boys’ which edged out the 27-year-old record of 54.30 seconds set in 1998.

“Feeling ko po na siguro deserve ko po ‘to na makuha ko po ‘yung first [place] and dahil nga po sa pagsuporta sa akin ng mga nagsusuporta po sa akin, lalo na ‘yung mga magulang ko at coaches po,” said Domingo.

(I feel like I really deserved to get first place, and it’s because of my supporters who support me, especially my parents and coaches.)

Despite their triumphs, Western Visayas dethroned NCR in secondary boys’ basketball, 76-67, which had cut off their back-to-back victory, yet recuperated their title against Bacolod in secondary girls’ volleyball, 25-12, 25-14, 25-8.

NCR clanged a remarkable 72 golds, 56 silvers, and 40 bronzes from the secondary-level athletes and was topped more by elementary-level athletes with 45 golds, 14 silvers, and 10 bronzes that helped NCR defend their overall championship title.

On the other games, Calabarzon reclaimed second after bagging 47 golds, 68 silvers, and 66 bronzes, with chess standout and “Best Performer” Mar Aviel Carredo that garnered six gold medals.

Western Visayas completed the top 3 with 44-54-58, followed by Davao (43-28-36), who marked up their 32 golds from last year.

Having the top five completed, Northern Mindanao bounced back from being ninth last year, garnered 31 golds, 26 silvers, and 46 bronzes, including 9 golds in arnis.

Now that Ilocos Norte closed their duties as the host, they passed the duties back to Mindanao, Agusan Del Sur for 2026 Palarong Pambansa.
