NEWS ARTICLE: "Facebook Post Showing Photos of Grade 11 Students Disrespecting their Teachers" by Trisha Lyn Talisic

October 9,2020 - Screenshot photos expose Grade 11 Students’ Facebook group chat showing disrespect to teachers of Lyceum of Alabang.

On Friday, at around 6 PM, a public post with the caption “LYCEUM OF ALABANG – GRADE 11 STUDENT CURSING A TEACHER TO DEATH” by an unknown Facebook user alarms the students, teachers and staff of Lyceum of Alabang. The account intents to expose the students involved and sympathizes with the struggle and hardship of teachers to adjust with the “new normal” online classes. The conversation of these students involves ill-wishing, threatening and cussing. The post rapidly circulated but then deleted two hours later.

The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) confirms that six students were involved in this issue wherein 2 of them committed serious offenses. As per the mandate of the student handbook, these students are supposed to face a sanction of a 15-day suspension. However, the student manual has not been released to the new students as of writing. Thus, these concerns cannot be easily addressed, and the punishment technically cannot take into effect. The Social Sciences coordinator, the HUMSS Coordinator and the faculty member who is the subject of the students' conversations, together with Director of Student Affairs, Mrs. Miguela Arcega agree to give the students the following sanctions: a conference with the students and their parents for a verbal reprimand, a special examination in lieu of the regular mastery exam, and a record of offense at the OSA. Any further violation will merit them suspension.

Because of this incident, the OSA is hoping to release the student handbooks as soon as they can especially for the new students. They also commit to hold a special orientation online regarding the different rules, regulations and sanctions of Lyceum of Alabang.
