During the morning rush hour, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) began providing free transportation to commuters along Commonwealth Av.-Litex Road in Quezon City.
In a statement, MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said the agency deployed six buses and two trucks to help passengers who are having trouble finding transportation in the region.
The MMDA's free transportation service began on Friday and will run from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. every day, "as long as it is needed," according to Artes.
Commuters would be dropped off at the Welcome Rotonda, which is located on the Manila-Quezon City border. According to Artes, the MMDA's free trips were only a temporary answer to the area's public transit issues.
“We are looking for a long-term solution and will coordinate with city bus operators and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and Department of Transportation for a long-term solution to increase the number of PUBs (public utility buses) plying Commonwealth Avenue,” Artes added.
