//TW: Murder

"I love you," she cuddled with her love on the bed.

Anastasia, a middle-aged woman born with a silver spoon in her mouth, fell in love with the most despicable man to ever exist. The man was a criminal, a robber at most. He had robbed millions, including her heart.

The start of spring, March 20, 1960.

Anastasia had just graduated from college. Although she was a wealthy woman, she rushed herself to find a job.

She was the first woman to be a police officer in their country. It was a peculiar job for a woman, but her desire for world peace was strong.

Her desire for peace started when she was a wee lady, at eight years old. Her mother was murdered brutally, which made her want to capture all the nefarious human beings. Ever since that day, it had only been her and her father.

It had been a month or two since she started her duty as a police officer. One day, the most prominent criminal, William Scott, was captured. He was wanted for a decade and well-known for his incredible skills in a robbery. Not once had he been caught...until that one day.

“Take him in!” The chief signaled the officers to take William to the dungeons.

A few hours later. “Anastasia, would you do me a favor?” her colleague asked her. “Look after the prisoners for me. The others and I are going for a drink.”

But before Anastasia could say a word, her colleague thanked her and ran.

“People tend to look down on me here…” she sighed. “Not once had they let me handle a case.”

“Excuse me?” She opened the door that led to the dungeons. “I’ll be guarding you all for tonight.”

But the moment her eyes and William’s met, she froze. Her jaw dropped, and her heart started acting in a way she never felt before.

“There’s a chair there for you to sit,” William pointed her at a chair.

“Oh, right.” She clenched her fists and sat.

“What was that?” she thought. “I couldn’t control myself back there.”

It soon became her colleague’s habit of asking her to guard the prisoners during the time of dusk.

It had been half a month since Anastasia’s first encounter with William. Surprisingly, both of them formed a connection—something that became special in Anastasia’s heart.

Suddenly, William brought up the most bizarre idea he had said to Anastasia. “Would you help me escape? I figured you wouldn’t want to be in a relationship with someone behind bars. But…I’m willing to change, only for you.”

Without hesitating, Anastasia helped him. She believed the words coming from a criminal—because of love. “Very well, if that is what it takes for us to be together.” William was seeking freedom in an instant. “Finally! I thought I’d die in that rotten dungeon.” He stretched his arms.

"Henceforth, you and I will be known as lovers," she held William's hand. But it wasn’t that tranquil for them to go out. William was a known criminal. If anyone would see him out in broad daylight, he’d be put behind bars again.

Thus, Anastasia had kept William safe in her house. She didn’t want to be separated from him again…until she found out the truth about what he truly sought from her.

The end of spring, June 20, 1960.

William would always disappear from Anastasia’s sight. He would come back to her at nightfall, but this time, he didn’t bother coming back. He was nowhere to be found, and so were her belongings.

“Could it be…?” Anastasia gasped. “Was I victimized by his evil deeds?”

“But…I thought he loved me.” She fell to the ground, with tears falling from her eyes. “He said he would change, only for me.”

Instead of bawling her eyes out, she immediately ordered her men to find him. She was furious about getting fooled. It didn’t take them a week to find William’s whereabouts. He lived in a small shed, buried deep in the woods.

“The carriage is ready, madam,” Anastasia's servant called her. “I bid you a safe travel to the woods.”

“That wicked imbecile.” She twitched her eyes. “How dare he mess with a woman like me.”

“I’m surprised you were able to fool me, per se.” She kicked William’s door open. “I’ll make you regret every inch of what you did to me!”

“Anastasia?” William was agitated. “How…how did you find me?”

“Do you think I am a fool?” She slapped him. “I'm sick and tired of you running away from me.”

Anastasia ordered her guard to hit him until he became unconscious. She laughed as she heard how he miserably begged for help, but not for her forgiveness. After a few hours, William woke up, tied to a tree. "What...what are you doing?!" he shouted in fear.

She slowly walked closer to him, with murder in her eyes. "I loved you," she said as she pulled the trigger. Nothing else was left, except for a single teardrop.
