November 1, 2022 — The Department of Education proclaims to follow the MalacaΓ±ang’s recent order on the optional face mask usage in indoor areas, allowing students to refrain from wearing their masks during in-person classes.
"We will follow [Executive Order] No. 7 and issue an amendatory [department order]," DepEd spokesman Michael Poa stated in response to a query in regards to masking in classrooms.
"Schools may immediately implement optional masking indoors," he further mentioned.
Last week, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. approved the voluntary use of face masks in both indoor and outdoor places despite the persisting COVID-19 threat.
However, the use of face masks in healthcare facilities, medical transport vehicles, and all forms of public transportation will remain mandatory under the said order.
Furthermore, the elderly, individuals with comorbidities, immunocompromised persons, pregnant women, unvaccinated individuals, and those who experience COVID-19 symptoms are highly encouraged to continue the practice of wearing face masks.
