Pumped up Philippines’ pride, Hidilyn Diaz, once again wrote history under her name and resonated at a gold capturing spree, ruling over the 55kg Women’s Division at three consecutive champion titles in the 2022 IWF World Weightlifting Championships held in Bogotá, Colombia, December 8.

Diaz completely dominated at the 55kg lift with a 207kg, crushing the opposition at a 8 kg lead against the silver medalist, Rosalba Morales of Columbia- who also managed to mark her name in all three competitions- dropping a 199 kg scribe, and a 9 kg advantage over Mexico’s Ana Gabriella Lopez at 198kg and bagged bronze.

It was a tremendous battle of powerful heaves at the 55kg snatch competition as Lopez and Morales called for a nerve-racking close calls of 90 kg by Lopez to take silver and Morales’ 89 kg markers at bronze before Diaz casually nailed a 93 kg score and brought home her second gold at a 3 kg margin against Lopez and Morales’ attempts.

At a 114 kg clinch, Diaz maneuvered to clear the champ against a neck-to-neck bat against Morales at 110 kg, once more taking the second place, and trouncing over at a close 109 kg by Shoely Mago of Peru at the women’s clean and jerk.

Previously, the renowned champion, Diaz, took the only gold medal of the Philippines for Olympic Games Tokyo 2022 and is now aiming to compete either at 49 kg or more than 59 kg for the 2024 Olympic Games on a later interview conducted by IWF.
