On December 1, 2022, Pantone released its color of the year 2023, which is Viva Magenta that symbolizes bravery and fearlessness.
A vibrant shade of Viva Magenta (1817–1750) came from a red family with a pulsating color that expresses strength and promotes joyous and optimistic celebration.
In this age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real. PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family, and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known.
Rooted in the primordial, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta reconnects us to original matter. "Invoking the forces of nature, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength," said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute.
Viva Magenta is a hybrid color and classified as bold, rich, deep, and expressive color. It is made with the shades of red, green, and blue. It is deep red with a blueish-red tone.
The core pigment of the Viva Magenta came from a cochineal beetle that produces carmine dye, which is used as pigment in different objects and materials.
Color of the year is one of the beliefs that it could bring luck, abundance, and prosperity through the whole year, which a lot of people still believes.
