The titleholders who confidently took their momentous walk also stumbled backstage.

Mr. John Andrei Casimiro from ABM mentioned he always tripped on his way toward conquering self-doubt, but his support system made him stand firm.

“I always thought that I couldn't do it, that I would only be embarrassed, that I would only lose,” Casimiro shared in an interview with The Spiracle.

“But the longer I was in the pageant, little by little, I realized that I have grown [...] I can show who I am [...] and I can fight my self-doubt,” the titleholder added.

Ms. Princess Jhasmin Magnaye, also from ABM, suffered from a high fever during their weeklong preparation, prompting her to miss one rehearsal.

“During the day of the competition, I was sleeping in our designated classroom while waiting so I could rest in the meantime and save my energy,” Magnaye said in an interview with The Spiracle.

Magnaye also sent her gratitude to Ms. Ellaine Pariente, one of her instructors, for the latter's patience during the period.

Aside from such challenges, the titleholders also faced difficulties during the contest proper due to their heavy attire during the Flower Festival Costume segment, which bloomed as they also got a back-to-back win in the category. Casimiro said his shoulder was scratched after wearing the costume.

At the onset, Casimiro and Magnaye had their first walk in a pageant, and at the epilogue of the event, they also got their first win.

Casimiro and Magnaye are both first-timers, causing hesitation and doubt. To recall, the titleholders last year, Mr. Darein Catchillar and Ms. Charlize Tibay, were also first-timers.

“To be honest, I was hesitant at first because I'm not really good at public speaking or expressing my emotions [...] in public, but I made it, and it was a huge accomplishment for me,” the newly-crowned Ms. Lyceum 2023 said.

Meanwhile, Casimiro was not expecting to win the pageant because of his low self-esteem, further commending the wit of other contestants, describing his relationship with them as “true sportsmanship.”

The low self-confidence and hesitation were hurdled, as they both won the grand title.

Casimiro was in disbelief when the emcees called his name, citing how good his competitors were.

“Wait a minute. Is this for real? Because I can't believe it—that I [won] the pageant,” said Casimiro.

Magnaye was likewise bemused, only able to process the situation after Casimiro signaled to join him on stage.

“All of our [efforts] and sleepless nights had paid off,” Magnaye remarked.

Despite the pressure as ABM got the title for Mr. Lyceum and first-runner-up for Ms. Lyceum last year, Magnaye shared Rica Mae Cerujano, the first-runner-up for Ms. Lyceum 2022, eased her worries due to Cerujano's assurance.

Cerujano, along with other winners from last year's pageant, also took their farewell walk during the Coronation Night.
