The nightmare of the archers abides.
Shevana Laput led De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Archers with her career-high execution to devastate the handicapped Ateneo University in four sets in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season 87 regular season game, 25-15, 25-14, 20-25, 25-19, to extend their 15-win hot streak against Ateneo at the Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday, March 12.
La Salle veteran Laput garnered 25 points with 19 attacks, three blocks, and three aces to break her personal record in the UAAP.
La Salle's win streak contra Ateneo started way back in season 79, after DLSU swept Ateneo in the finals.
DLSU had a setback in the third set due to errors, but DLSU regained their senses and ended the match in the 4th set with their attack advantage 48-37 and blocks 13-2.
Laput expressed her utmost respect for Ateneo, showing great sportsmanship and love for the sport they cherish.
"Whether or not the other team has injured players, we still play with respect and pride because they are Ateneo," Laput mentioned.
"At the end of the day, for our team, it was all about being true to ourselves and playing the game that we know," she added.
Season 85 Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player (MVP) Angel Canino from DLSU scored 17 points and contributed excellent defense with eight digs and four receptions.
Lyann de Guzman, Ac Miner, and Yvana Sulit anchored Ateneo with their 36 points combined.
DLSU carried on their third straight triumph in the UAAP season 87 tournament; on the other hand, Ateneo worsened their record to 1-5 and fell off the standings.
