Fueled Knowledge. Power Confidence. Electrifying Cheers. These are just a few of the many highlights that was seen and experienced as the school representatives from different strands competed at the Quiz Bee and Poster Making Contests during the You Have The Power (YHTP) Mall Activities Caravan by the Department of Energy (DOE) on July 7, 2025. After an exhilarating competition against other schools, Lyceum of Alabang Inc. (LOA) stepped onto the podium with two students securing first place in both activities at SM City Sucat.
Beyond the anticipated competition, the event also featured different activities such as multiple interactive booths handing out energy-related items such as LED bulbs, comics, pamphlets, and educational materials provided by the DOE - Energy Utilization Management Bureau, in partnership with the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), in collaboration with SM Cares and SM Supermalls, and supported by Daikin Philippines and Firefly Electric and Lighting Corporation.
A mind for a mind, and hands for another one. A contest must have its players ready for the survival of the fittest—well, in this case, representatives prepared to answer questions correctly and create art that educates, moves, and inspires.
Aside from Lyceum of Alabang Inc., several schools also attended the event to actively participate, including ParaΓ±aque National High School, Olivarez College, and Mapua University.
Five Schools. Countless Talents. Only the odds will favor the chosen one. In a fortunate case, the colors yellow and blue are among them, carrying the school's name proudly.
The event highlighted the two competitions: The Ultimate Quiz Bee Sector and the Poster-Making Contest. During the intense battle of wits and creativity, two Lyceans shone brightly in the spotlight. With two students clinching major awards, let us get to know who these victors are and watts the story behind their win.
BRAIN’S ON MAX ENERGY: THE ULTIMATE QUIZ BEE WIN
During the battle of the minds, one showcased his knowledge, making his way to victory.
In the Watt’s Happening: Ultimate Quiz Bee Sector, Jayniel James Balbanero from the General Academic Strand (GAS) secured first place using his quick and energized brain. Even with little preparation for the competition, he was still confident in his skills.
“Unexpected kasi hindi ko nireview ‘yung coverage ng Quiz Bee, pero thank God for his guidance para sa first place. Nag-prepare naman ng kaunti ako pero hindi pumasok sa pinaka questions,” Balanero stated with pride during an interview with The Spiracle.
His victory not only brought pride to the school but also inspired fellow students to take competitions with more grit and hard work in their specific interests and skills. As his name was called onto the stage, the crowd and fellow competitors congratulated his achievement.
While many congratulated the man who was at the center of the podium, another student emerged victorious through a more vibrant approach.
SURGE OF ABSTRACT EXPRESSION: THE POWER-PACKED POSTER-MAKING VICTORY
For the Poster Making Contest, John Arnold Pamintuan from the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand seized the opputunity, securing first place. Despite initial doubts on his own work, he still poured all his effort into submitting an award-winning piece.
During an interview with The Spiracle, he shared, “Hindi ko in-expect na ako mananalo, nagulat nga din ako kasi ang pangit ng gawa ko, [pero] pinaghandaan ko naman, nag-search ako ng elements sa poster na gagawin.”
His victory proved that creativity, fueled by preparation and passion, can still shine through despite self-doubt with a little push.
VITAL STIMULATORS: THE EMPOWERING MENTORS BEHIND
Behind each win, there are always the supportive advisers guiding the student to victory. SciMath Enthusiasts Society adviser, Mr. Wyn Sauler, and co-adviser, Ms. Angie Aldaba, played a crucial role in preparing the students, offering their unwavering support throughout the competition.
Even before stepping into the competition proper, both advisers held a school-based elimination and thoroughly selected the right participants to represent the school. With eyes for potential, their guidance served as the light to victory.
Both their advice not only sharpened the students’ minds but also boosted their confidence to perform with maximum brain power.
ENERGY BOOSTERS: THE PUMPED-UP INTERMISSION PERFORMANCES
Exhausted after the competition? Well, they've got the best energy boosters.
During the opening ceremony on July 7, Tawag ng Tanghalan quarter finalist, Shanne Gulle stunned everyone with her powerful vocals that left the audience in awe. She performed her notable song, Kilometro by Sarah Geronimo, and Power by Little Mix, to match the energy-themed event.
To close the event, Lyceum of Alabang’s pride, ALTA Dance Troupe delivered, as always, an electrifying performance using an SB19 remix. In the end, the crowd cheered, feeling energized and hyped for the award ceremony.
After an exhilarating performance from Ms. Gulle and the ALTA Dance Troupe, participants from different schools now gathered to say goodbye to a memorable moment, bringing electrified minds with them on the way.
THE CURRENTS OF CHANGE: INSIGHTS FROM THE ENERGY FRONTLINERS
Various guest speakers are invited to the event, notably Asec. Faith De Guia from DOE welcomed everyone. She also delivered the closing remarks, sharing the importance of energy conservation.
Other guest speakers from the department sponsors also shared their gratitude for the meaningful event that taught young minds to the proper use of energy.
Starting excited, leaving empowered. Victors, advisers, and participants coming from different schools left the venue with one remark: Energy is valuable, and so are our skills.
The YHTP Mall Tour 2025 was not just a program, it also served as a platform in bringing energy awareness closer to the youth and the public.
Not only did the event highlight the vibrant talents of the youth, but it also showcased radiant event kits and unique talents brought together by a shared commitment to give light to energy management and control. They've got the power—and were honored to share this strength with others.
