Alter Ego Esports (AE) showed an unbelievable upset versus Team Liquid (TL), 3-2, to advance in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) M7 World Championship Upper Bracket Finals at the MPL Arena XO Hall in Jakarta, Indonesia, on January 24.
In the do-or-die game 5, AE outsmarted TL by punishing their ego pick by securing Claude, who heavily countered a careless Esmeralda gold lane of TL without a marksman jungler to deal damage, resulting in a late-game comeback.
The Greatest Of All Time, Karl Gabriel "Karltzy" Nepomuceno, shared his thoughts and expressed his thanks to all TL's supporters on his personal Facebook account: "GG ALTER EGO! NT GOLDEN ROADERS!! TYALL."
TL underestimated AE capabilities by drafting an early-game dependent composition, picking Esmeralda, Yuzhong, and Khaleed, with only Leomord and Yve as the damage dealers to the frontliners of AE.
Fresh from the MSC and MPL PH triumph, TL attempted to clinch the M7 trophy to complete their dominant season, solidifying their greatness in the MLBB scene.
In the opener game, AE executed a one-sided massacre versus TL with a 22-9 victory, gaining a 1-0 series advantage.
TL got their revenge in game 2, pulling off crazy diversion plays from Sanji's Lou Yi and shocking teleports from Jaypee's Chip that overwhelmed AE, equalizing the series, 1-1.
From their game 2 momentum, TL destroyed AE in game 3 with Karltzy's unstoppable Leomord, getting the first series point, 2-1.
Game 4 was a total disaster for TL, falling to a 10k gold deficit. Arfy's snowballing Freya was the key to victory for AE, catching up to TL, 2-2.
With this win, AE is set to face off against Selangor Red Giants (SRG) in the Upper Bracket Finals later this day, January 24.
