Global oil markets are bracing for a major price hike during the week of January 19–23, 2026, as rising tensions involving Iran and broader geopolitical risks continue to unsettle investors and raise concerns about supply stability, analysts said.

Political unrest in Iran, including widespread protests and the possibility of renewed confrontation with the United States, has added pressure to oil futures. As a result, expectations are growing that global energy prices will climb in the days ahead.

“Oil markets are extremely sensitive to what’s happening in the Middle East,” an energy markets strategist said. “If tensions remain elevated through January 19–23, traders are likely to push prices higher to account for potential supply risks.”

Oil prices have already climbed to multi-month highs. Both Brent crude and West Texas Intermediate posted gains in early January as fears grew over possible disruptions to Iranian exports and wider regional instability.

While recent comments from world leaders have helped calm markets in the short term, concerns persist due to the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz. Nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes through the narrow waterway, making it a critical pressure point for global markets.

“Even without an actual disruption, uncertainty alone is enough to drive prices up,” a commodities analyst noted.

For consumers in oil-importing countries, this could mean higher fuel prices later in January, as refiners adjust pump prices to reflect rising global crude costs.
