Subject: Admiring someone you can’t have.

I like you in the softest way,

the kind that learns how to look away.

You shine so bold, so sure, so free,

laughing with friends effortlessly.

Your voice sounds like my favorite chords,

a precious song I’m not allowed to hold.

I let it echo, then look away,

my heart aching with each note it played.

You walk in worlds I can’t step through,

smiling as if nothing could touch you.

I stay behind where shadows cling—

learning to ache for everything.

So I admire what I cannot have,

my hands folded, my heart held back.

Some songs are better left unplayed,

and I walk away, broken by the notes they’ve made.
