Theme: The conflict between selflessness and self-love.
Would you rather be selfish…
or selfless?
Life is a maze of choices,
each path lined with shadow and light.
Some decisions demand sacrifice—
unevitible,
like an earthquake that shakes your chest,
quiet at first,
then too heavy to ignore.
A choice comes—deadly or divine.
Do you stay to comfort a friend in grief,
even when your own heart is breaking?
Do you give your time to someone else’s dream,
while yours gathers dust on the shelf?
Sometimes, choosing them feels easier—
a quiet surrender.
You let the rain soak your sleeves,
pretending the cold doesn’t touch you.
You loosen your grip
on the cup burning your palm.
You say goodbye with a steady voice,
even as something inside you breaks.
It drains you, bit by bit,
until the mirror no longer reflects
who you used to be—
only someone tired,
wondering when love
started to cost so much.
But protecting yourself
has its own danger—
a sharp, sudden sting.
The hand you thought would never leave—gone.
The hollow ache
of a meal set for two,
eaten alone.
When love asks a price,
and that price is you…
what do you choose?
Who deserves your kindness?
Who carries your guilt?
What do you do
when your heart loves another,
but your soul wants itself too?
Selfless,
or selfish?
And when the choice is made,
freedom does not roar.
It whispers—
soft, unfamiliar,
in the quiet corners
where your soul exhales
and remembers
its own shape.
