NEWS: "Pilot run for limited face-to-face classes soon to launch" by: Anya Sotomayor

On Monday, September 20, 2021, Malacañang announced President Rodrigo Duterte's approval for the pilot run of the limited face-to-face classes in areas with low risk for COVID-19.

According to DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones, they will have a very strict implementation of health standards. Furthermore, the protocol for preparing the school will also include school personnel, students, and the community before the school reopening.

Only 120 schools are allowed to join the two-month pilot reopening run. The pilot run covers a limit of 100 public schools and 20 private institutions jointly validated by the DepEd and Department of Health (DOH). The schools to join should be considered low-risk and had passed the readiness assessment.

The list of schools to participate in the pilot run has yet to release according to DepEd

The kindergarten will only cover 12 learners, 26 learners for grades 1 to 3, and 20 learners for the technical-vocational strand in Senior High School.

Kindergarten to Grade 3 learners will only be in the classroom for a limit of three hours. In addition to this, senior high school learners can only attend the class for a limit of four hours. The face-to-face classes will be conducted half-day every other week so that all the qualified students will have equal opportunity to attend.

The DepEd requires the consent of guardians of students who will partake in the pilot run. "Learners shall not be forced to attend the pilot implementation of face-to-face classes," said, Secretary Briones

Secretary Leonor Briones added that for those schools who are excluded from the pilot run, the distance learning modality will keep on being carried out.
