Sheynnis Palacio, a rising Latina beauty queen, brought home the crown for the Miss Universe 2023, finally having the much-awaited first-ever crown for her country, Nicaragua, on Sunday, November 19, at the JosΓ© Adolfo Pineda Arena, El Salvador.

Out of all the 83 delegates from all over the world, Palacio succeeded the Miss Universe 2022, Filipino-American R’Bonney Gabriel; she is also the first who claimed title of the prestigious event among the Central American countries.

In the nerve-wracking final question-and-answer portion of the pageant, the Top 3 of Miss Universe, Thailand, Nicaragua, and Australia, were asked the same question: Who is the woman they want to be in their shoes for a year, and what would be their reason. Palacio answered Mary Wollstonecraft, a British writer, philosopher, and a women's rights advocate during the 18th century, because the writer gave an opportunity for women to stand by their rights.

Miss Nicaragua also stated that she wants the income gap in society to open up so women could work in any area they chose to work in, while also believing that there are no limitations for women, highlighting that it is the year 2023, a year of making history—which concluded her winning answer.

Meanwhile, Anntonia Porsild of Thailand was crowned as the first runner-up of the competition. She was followed by Moraya Wilson of Australia, who stood as the second runner-up for the pageant.

The other Miss Universe 2023 Top 5 were also formed by Karla GuilfΓΊ from Puerto Rico and Camila Avella from Colombia, who made history as she became the first mother and woman past the previous age limit to the competition to land on the Top 5 of the competition.

Furthermore, the Philippines' candidate, Michelle Dee, finished her journey in the Top 10 of the competition; this was highlighted by her black evening gown in the final show of the pageant that was inspired by the legendary tattoo artist from the Philippines, Apo Whang-Od, and that was designed by Mark Bumgarner.

Furthermore, Miss Universe 2023 also listed down special awards given to various candidates. Miss Congeniality was dedicated to Spain’s bet, Athenea PΓ©rez, while the Spirit of Carnival Award was given to the Philippines’ candidate, Michelle Dee, who also took other award such as Voice for Change Silver Finalists and the Fan’s Vote Award.

Other notable Voice for Change Silver Finalists were also given to Angola’s Ana Coimbra, Puerto Rico’s Karla GuilfΓΊ, Brazil’s Maria Brechane, Chile’s Celeste Viel, Lebanon’s Maya Aboul Hosn, Singapore’s Priyanka Annucia, South Africa’s Bryoni Govender, Ukraine’s Angelina Usanova and Zimbawe’s Brooke Bruk-Jackson
