Wello Lingolingo from University of the East (UE) sealed the nerve-frazzling match against Adamson University in the first round of University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season 87, on Sunday, October 6, 2024 at Mall of Asia Arena.

During the final minutes of the game, the UE hero, Lingolingo banked a crucial mid-range shot at the buzzer from Nico Mulingtapang's missed shot, that led UE to a five-game winning streak by the end of the first round.

“For the last shot, it was like I was in the right place at the right time. I just got the ball, and when I saw the time, I took the shot because I couldn’t do anything else, and luckily, it went in,” Lingolingo stated.

As time ran out, Lingolingo rebounded the ball from a missed shot and took the opportunity to steal the match with his 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals by the end of the match.

Precious Momowei executed a dominant performance for UE with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and three steals, after barely sitting down on the bench. Devin Fikes contributed and anchored UE in the first quarter with his 11 points.

With their indomitable spirit, Adamson took control of the match early, keeping a 10 point lead and converted almost half of their field goals, but UE hustled up and narrowed the gap by 5 at the end of the first quarter, 39-34.

Ethan Galang took back-to-back 3-point clutch shots that further subtracted the lead by 2 in the 4th quarter, 50-48, and converted 6 out of 10 field-goals beyond the arc.

Ced Manzano of Adamson forced out a shot clock violation with 39.9 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter, Mulingtapang signed his teammates; executed a bad shot selection, and missed the shot before the mind-blowing buzzer beater of Lingolingo.

“First of all, we thank God because our winning streak is really putting pressure on us, so I’m very thankful that they’re following the game plan. Their efforts are truly answered prayers,” coach Jack Santiago stated.

UE Red Warriors climbed up to the third spot and if De La Salle University suffers defeat against University of the Philippines, UE Red Warriors goes up in the second spot with their 5-2 standing, while Adamson slipped to 3-4.
