Tactical execution and precise calculation defined the Men’s Chess Championship match on October 10, 2026, as Information and Communications Technology (ICT) faced Business and Entrepreneurship, Accountancy, Business and Management, Industrial Arts, and General Academic Strand (BE-ABM-IA-GAS) for the top spot.

The game started with the usual queen’s pawn opening of BE-ABM-IA-GAS and the modified caro kann system of ICT. The middlegame revolved around pawn structures and piece positioning, with BE-ABM-IA-GAS initially gaining a favorable position through an advancing pawn chain supported by a knight and rook. ICT, despite having fewer pawns, maintained an active king that became crucial as the match continued.

The high point of the match started when BE-ABM-IA-GAS blundered their rook and horse for a pawn giving ICT an opportunity to turn the game around with a rook that can easily navigate itself around the board, isolating BE-ABM-IA-GAS’s king and its locked pawns.

Both players then advanced their pawns on opposite sides of the board, with ICT pushing on the queenside while BE-ABM-IA-GAS advanced on the kingside. The race to promote their pawns added pressure as each side attempted to gain a decisive advantage.
ICT ultimately secured the championship after defeating BE-ABM-IA-GAS in a match highlighted by a brilliant rook sacrifice.

The move created an opportunity for ICT’s pawn to advance along the third file and promote to a queen, giving ICT a winning position and a hard time for BE-ABM-IA-GAS to react. After several moves, ICT won leaving BE-ABM-IA-GAS short on time and winning the championship.
