NEWS: "Flurona: a new COVID-19 variant?" By: Allen Paolo M. Mirondo

Last Wednesday, Department of Health recorded 10,775 new cases, the highest COVID-19 cases since October 10. Due to Omicron surge, Israel Health Department detected a new case called, "Flurona."

So what exactly is Flurona? This new case isn't a new virus nor a variant. Flurona is a combination of Influenza and COVID-19. People with Flurona experience fever and COVID-19 at the same time and it is not unusual.

Flurona is not new. It has also occurred in people since the very start of the pandemic in 2020. Both the flu and COVID-19 can make people really sick and both individually can kill people, especially if they are unvaccinated, Forbes on their report.

Philippines has already seen a case where a patient was infected with both viruses, Department of Health technical advisory group member Dr. Edsel Salvana said.

Salvana advised Filipinos to get their vaccine for flu and pneumonia to obtain maximum protection from severe disease and death from the illness caused by the pathogens.
