EDITORIAL: "Marites"
By: Allen Paolo M. Mirondo
After more than 21 months through the pandemic, with all of the social isolation, mask and face shield protocols, and on-off lockdowns — we're all curious as to when and how COVID-19 will come to an end.
The pandemic concludes in different ways in various nations depending on the proportion of people who have been immunized. Plus, how much infection has occurred (and thus, how much natural immunity has developed) since the pandemic began.
Since our country reports 19,911 new cases on average each day — the `Old Normal’ that we are expecting in the coming years can’t be attained unless we have a concrete plan to address COVID-19. Schools, food industries and other businesses in smaller countries with the same population as the Philippines are all preparing to go back to normal. So, Aling Marites, what do you think is the problem? Is it still the people who do not wear their masks and face shields properly?
Adherence to the safety protocols and vaccination are key elements to the success of the government’s Covid-19 pandemic responses. Only 16.2% of the population in the Philippines are fully vaccinated. Marites, if you want to go back to your `old lifeΚΌ, get vaccinated — Trolling on the internet can’t make the pandemic dissipate.
Visit your respective LGU or contact the Department of Health for further information on how to get vaccinated. Here are the contact information for DOH:
