With a total number of 61 million and counting, the Filipino citizens surpass the expectation of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), which is only 59 million of Filipino citizens.
Commission on Elections (Comelec) director James Jimenez says that the numbers keep growing and the total numbers are now closer to 62 million registered voters.
Surprisingly, 52% of the total numbers of voters are all youth that is why Jimenez believes that young Filipino voters can make a difference in the upcoming 2022 Elections.
However, despite the senators’ call, Comelec decides not to extend the voters' registration period. Instead, they only approve a resolution extending the voter registration hours. Therefore, the deadline for registration will still last until September 30, 2021.
